This is SENKASHI. SENKASHI is one of the strongest Washi.

In the old days this Washi was used as hinges for fancy boxes because of its strength.

I apologize but the thickness of the paper as written above are not always exact because they are handmade and they are made by putting 2 sheets of paper together.

    Why is this Washi so strong? SENKASHI is made by putting two different sheets of paper together - one of them is made with SU(a tool for making Washi) which has the rough mesh, and the other is made with a fine mesh.

    Putting the 2 sheets together with different fiber sizes makes stronger than the 2 sheets separately.

    They cling together tightly because they were put together when they were wet. It is not be possible to separate them after this process.
